The second report in a week has analysed phishing attacks that are attempting — and probably succeeding — in bypassing older forms of two-factor authentication 2FA. The latest is from campaign group Amnesty International, which said it had detected two campaigns sending bogus account alerts targeting around 1, human rights defenders in and around the Middle East and Africa. The organisation has its theories about who is behind the attacks but what will matter most to Naked Security readers are the methods being employed to defeat authentication.

Johannesburg AFP - A hundred naturists converged Saturday on a beach in South Africa, which has become Africa's first official nudist beach, despite objections from some locals. A metre yard stretch of Mpenjati Beach, which lies on the Indian Ocean, received local government approval last year to become the continent's first official nudist venue. Pavlovic said earlier that planned activities during the Easter weekend would include volleyball and sack races. South Africa has been home to unofficial nude beaches for decades, such as Cape Town's famous Sandy Bay, but this was the first weekend of authorised naked beach sports and sunbathing. Last-minute objections by a local group secured a compromise from officials, who have designated the opening as a "trial run". The residents' group said in its appeal that naked sun-lovers would have a "negative effect on a society that is striving for wholesome lifestyles". However the first day of the nudist beach passed without incident.

Sensing a turning tide, many Seoul residents took off their surgical masks and resumed riding the subways and shopping at malls. Then, on Feb. An unidentified year-old woman, who lived there and occasionally commuted to Seoul, tested positive for the novel coronavirus. What they learned shocked them: the woman had, during the previous 10 days, attended two worship services with at least 1, other members of her secretive religious sect whose leader says the end of days is coming. The tally rose by 20 during that period, doubled the following day and then doubled again on the third day.
Another day, another revelation about intelligence agencies' ability to peer into your private life: The Guardian reported that GCHQ, Britain's surveillance agency, captured stills from Yahoo webcam chats between and The program, codenamed Optic Nerve, mined the chats of more than 1. GCHQ believed some targets were using Yahoo webcam chats to communicate, so they pulled in stills--one shot taken every five minutes--from users whose Yahoo usernames were similar to those used by terror suspects. The spy agency was reportedly collecting the webcam stills to test facial recognition automation and keep track of targets. Users living in New Zealand, Australia, and Canada were also included in the searches without legal protections. In documents obtained by The Guardian , it appeared that GCHQ struggled to separate useful content from the percent of Yahoo webcam stills that contained nudity. It's surprising that GCHQ was surprised that people use webcams for sexual purposes. Are British spies unfamiliar with the Internet? GCHQ did little to filter out explicit images, which means analysts were actually viewing your nude chats, but later on tweaked the Optic Nerve software to exclude shots without faces in them. Yahoo told The Guardian that it was unaware of the British program and does not condone the collection of its users' webcam chats.
